How do I know where to drill on my property?
While you may have a preferred location for convenience, several factors dictate the best spot. We look at state-mandated setbacks from septic systems and property lines, accessibility for our drilling rig, and geological data from neighboring wells. Our team helps you find the 'sweet spot' that balances legal requirements with high production potential.
How deep will my well be?
Well depth varies significantly based on local geology. Some areas hit a high-yielding aquifer at 100 feet, while others may require drilling to 500 feet or more. We utilize historical drilling logs from your specific area to provide an educated estimate before we break ground.
What is a 'Flow Test' or 'GPM,' and why does it matter?
GPM stands for Gallons Per Minute. After drilling, we perform a flow test to determine the well's yield. For a standard household, a yield of 5–10 GPM is usually ideal, though lower-yield wells can often be managed effectively with the right Pump Installation and storage tank setup.
Do I need a permit to drill a well?
Yes. In most jurisdictions, a permit is required before any drilling begins. As part of our comprehensive service, H2O handles the heavy lifting—from filing the necessary paperwork with state or county agencies to ensuring the final well log is properly recorded.
How long does the drilling process take?
Most residential wells are drilled and cased within 1 to 3 days, depending on the hardness of the rock and the total depth. Once the 'hole' is complete, the pump installation and water testing typically follow shortly after.
Will my well water be safe to drink immediately?
Newly drilled wells should be 'disinfected' and tested for bacteria before being put into service. While groundwater is naturally filtered by the earth, we always recommend a professional Water Treatment analysis to check for minerals like iron, manganese, or arsenic that are common in our region's soil.
How long does a water well last?
A professionally drilled and cased well can last 30 to 50 years or more. The mechanical components, such as the pump, typically have a shorter lifespan (10–15 years), but the 'well bore' itself is a long-term asset to your property.
What is the difference between a 'Capped' well and a completed system?
'Drilling the well' refers to creating the borehold and installing the steel or PVC casing. A 'Completed System' includes the submersible pump, pressure tank, and lines running to your home. H2O can provide the full 'turnkey' solution from start to finish.
